Jeremy had work today and didn't get home until after 6:00. Being the wonderful husband that he is he let me leave for awhile, by myself, to do some shopping. I usually feel a little guilty for leaving him with the boys after he's worked all day, but tonight I just took advantage of the offer and left. When I got home he was reading to both boys. Looked like nothing much had happened. Then I heard the rest of the story...
Nathan loves to climb up on the kitchen chairs. Tonight he climbed up and spilled Isaiah's orange juice on the floor. Jeremy went to the sink to get something to cleaning it up. While he was gone, Nathan dropped Jeremy's glass onto the floor. The glass of course broke. Nathan has now earned some time in his highchair. It has wheels and Jeremy pushed it out of his way so he could clean up the mess. He pushed it next to the fridge. Where Nathan gladly played with the water button making yet one more mess. DOESN'T THAT JUST MAKE YOU SMILE? :) Nathan gets into so much more than Isaiah ever did. What a dear husband I have!
Two of my sister-in-laws let their kids play with beans. I decided to try it. It works great for about the first 5 minutes until someone (usually Nate) realizes that they are so much fun to throw. :( Maybe it's a boy thing. Anyway, you really should try this very cheap way to keep your kids busy sometime. Of course they are a choking hazard, so keep a close eye on small kids. I give them each a bowl or two and a couple measuring cups. If you put the kids and the beans on an old sheet the clean up is much easier. That is until they start throwing the beans. :(

You're not a bad mom, Sabrina. And doesn't it kinda make you giggle to yourself sometimes when they're naughty for Daddy?
ReplyDeleteInstead of beans, I have a container with rice and a few toys in it. It's not a choking hazard and maybe it's less fun to throw than beans. Maybe. I use a sheet too. Hmm... I haven't had that out for awhile. Tomorrow?
Don't worry. We ALL have days like that. We can make our mothering and our kids sound so good on our blogs, but let's be honest. Thank God for husbands that understand our need to get out alone. Emilie is so into the dining room chairs too...such a pain when she is pulling everything off the table...But you're right, someday we'll be looking back.
ReplyDeleteSabrina,
ReplyDeleteYou are one of the best moms I know! You love your boys so much and they love you. I love your honesty and vulnerablity on your blog.
Thanks for the bean idea... sounds like fun.
Beckee
Hehehe...the story about Jeremy and the boys is so funny.
ReplyDeleteI find myself always telling Marin..."Mommy will play with you later". I wish I could enjoy playing with a 3-yr-old more. That sounds horrible but my to-do list often takes priority.
BTW, you're a wonderful mother.
I meant to leave a comment long ago, but...you know.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure all moms have days like that...I know I do. And thank goodness for husbands who are willing to give us a break!! I had to laugh at all the 'fun' your guys had while you were gone. It's always so much more enjoyable when it happens to someone else, right? :)
